A tragic train accident took place late Saturday in western Russia’s Bryansk region, near the border with Ukraine. A passenger train derailed after a bridge collapsed, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people and injuries to 30 others, including two children.
According to Russian officials, the collapse happened due to what they described as “illegal interference” with the railway system. While they didn’t provide specific details, the term often suggests sabotage or deliberate damage.
Pictures from the scene show the damage. Some videos online show how other vehicles almost crossed the bridge just before it collapsed.”
Emergency teams and government officials quickly responded to the disaster. The region’s governor, Alexander Bogomaz, said they are doing everything possible to help the victims.
Though no one has been officially blamed, Russian authorities have previously accused pro-Ukrainian groups of targeting railway infrastructure during the ongoing conflict. However, these claims are often difficult to confirm, and investigations are still underway.
